Yep, I too have been experiencing problems with T-bird, mostly when downloading mail from the server. It can do a few emails ok, but if there's more than four or five, it simply stops working. When I close the program, it continues to run according to the Vista task manager. It worked fine for 8 months but now I have to use another mail program to get my mail off the server. I am using Opera which is more primitive but it is reliable (so far).

Very funny
All of the listed traits are very annoying.
Why do we allow someone from say Brighton to travel into the city of london to work ? Its utterly ludicrous, I know a woman who travels every day from bournmouth to the city .
I am advocating asking Boris to outlaw such tedious and costly journeys. How can this be good for the environment? I bet perfectly good employees travel out of london to work whilst people with identical qualifications and experience travel i! Madness and then they all moan about the overcrowded conditions and cost. All of them are on fools time. I wonder who has the longest most expensive daily journey?

the only reason it is so bad is that microsoft rushed making the software.

Nice comment Andy.

I'm gonna persevere with Vista mainly because I got my copy free from Microsoft and I resent giving them any more of my cash (especially with recent events unfolding).

You might remember not so long ago that people we're saying the same thing about Windows XP when that launched. "Go back to Windows 2000" they all said. It's stable and well...it just works. They had a good point, but its the same with all new software - there is always something the product developers didn't figure on happening.

If I'm totally honest, I love using new software even if it is as flakey as a pensioner with eczema. There's load to learn from seeing the faults - especially in my line of work!

So I guess I should be saying thanks Microsoft...ehem. Not that I will.

Hi Graham, I went through the pain of 'upgrading' my laptop to XP recently. I've completely lost the tablet screen functionality (pah, who needs it?) and found that the mic doesn't work at all when I tried to skype the wife from Holland on Monday but god it is all worth it. The laptop runs much faster, never crashes and things are easy all over again. Worth thinking about.

hilarious. and unfortunately, all entirely true across the ocean. a new-york-specific item:

during commute hours, without fail, someone decides that waiting to exit through the turnstile is just going to take 15 seconds too long. so they use the emergency exit door, which sets off a blaring alarm. and once one person does it, everyone follows, ensuring that the alarm continues indefinitely.

That's why I cycled everyday when I lived in London, plus I saved myself a lot of money and got free excercise - probably a total of £200 a month. I couldn't get my head around why people would pay to be squashed on a tube everyday, equilivanting smoking 2 cigarettes a day and having to pay for the pleasure.....

Now it's so grim up north that I have a 10/15 car ride into work. This means I can go to the (free) gym at 7am in the morning thanks to working for the top broadband provider in the UK - plug plug...:)

Hilarious list, but you missed off a couple of my favourites, which I shall hereby designate as 11, 11a, 12 and 13 ;-)

11. Stopping at thye bottom of an escalator. basic maths ells us that if you pause while descending or climbing a moving stairway, you're gonna produce a 'wave' effect' that backs up all the way, leaving disgruntled people at the top/bottom wondering who the f*** isn't moving their lazy ass. Why pause at the top/bottom? It's not going THAT fast! You can keep walking and never lose or gain momentum...sheesh...
and let's not forget 11a: Standing on the left on an escalator: How many signs saying 'please stand on the right' do you need? Every Londoner kinows that at least half of the populace aren't lazy or have gammy legs. They want to WALK up or down a stairway, even if it is moving. It's called exercise and it get us to the platform/way out quicker. get out of the muthaf***in way!!!
12: Deciding to stand right in front of the way onto a tube platform (this usually involves those wearing backpacks - see point 9) OK, you may be foreign/congenitally stupid but surely you can see that the number of people bumping into you, muttering obscenities at you indicates that you should move DOWN THE PLATFORM? maybe we should train our London Underground staff to say it in 15 different languages as well?
13: People who READ while walking. This one beggars belief. Are people trying to prove they can do two things at once? Reading the daily Metro isn't enough to wipe their brains of any sense. They have to carry on reading it while approaching the way out. Is it THAT important. Anyway, here's a fact: You're not doing two things at once, you're doing three: reading, walking and PISSING ME OFF because you're paying no attention to everyone trying to get past!

I know exactly where the doors open at my station in the morning, so I position myself there. The other day I did just that, with people around me who had clearly been waiting about 2 hours for a train, standing in places where the door doesnt open. The train pulled up and I hopped on first. I was verbally abused by a lovely young lady. I felt a little bit guilty until she called me a bastard - at which point I started to feel quite self-satisfied.

Is there some kind of unwritten rule that I should have been obeying though? If so please feel free to call me a bastard and tell me what it is.
